For the man who would not normally wear perfume, Frederic Malle's French Lover Eau de Parfum features the spicy freshness of pimiento, angelica, and juniper flowers that melts into a woody sea of cedar, patchouli, and vetiver, bound by galbanum and frankincense in a mysterious enhancement of natural scent.

French Lover by Frederic Malle is a Woody Aromatic fragrance for men. French Lover was launched in 2007. The nose behind this fragrance is Pierre Bourdon. Top notes are Galbanum and Spices. Middle notes are Angelica, Cedar and Incense. Base notes are Vetiver, Oakmoss and White Musk.

Interesting. Earthy.

I bought this scent out of curiosity. It was not a "lover scent", as the name implies. It is more of a "writer" scent, if that makes any sense. So, maybe we should say it is a French existentialist lover scent. I would describe the scent as earthy, mossy, grassy, musky, The mossy dominates. The grassy, is not like lawn grass, but more like mountain pasture grass - an earthy wild grass, mixed with forest humus. Personally, I like the scent, but it is unique and not for the conventional person (therefore the writer analogy). Two further thoughts: (1) There is also a hint of leather to this scent. Not heavy leather, but a very light sense of leather, as if one walked past an artisan leather shop. (2) This EDP is a strong scent. One spritz, two at the most, will last hours. More than that and someone will call the scent police.
