Blaring Pixies music on a hot day that's the inspiration for D.S. and Duga woody fig scent, Debaser. For anyone who has heard Pixies front man Black Francis wail, the thought of a fig scent may seem an odd choice. But Debaser, named after the band's 1989 hit, is not a typically creamy, lactic or fruity fig. It's a bright, hot green scent that opens with a waft of fig tree broiling in the August sun. It's an energetic, warm, bold and woody fig.

Debaser's refrain, I am un chien andalusia, is a nod to the title of Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali's classic surrealist film. Black Francis said of Bunuel, I wish Bunuel were still alive. He made this film about nothing in particular.

The title itself is a nonsense. D.S. and Durgas Debaser is therefore a tribute to a song about a film about nothing in particular. And fittingly, it's a fragrance that becomes even more compelling in its drydown, when it sheds the specificity of its figgy verisimilitude. That's when a perfect blend of base notes iris, coconut, tonka and moss leave a cool, velvet soft hint of wood on skin. Earthy and addictive.

So green!

This smells like a fig leaf. At first, for 30+ minutes or so, all I got from this was FIG LEAF! Which is fine. After a while, it started to mellow out and took on a little bit of a powdery quality, more earthy, some other notes come out. I like it, it's very fresh and refreshing. 100% unisex, nothing about this gives masculine or feminine to me. If you want to smell like a bright green leaf and then a slightly softer leaf, this is the fragrance for you. I will not ever need a full bottle of this, I think the 5mL spray will last me a very long time as it's not something I would reach for over and over again. I think Philosykos is a lot more interesting with similar notes.

Wanted to love but I hate it

This is one of those niche scents that smells unique but not something I’d want to smell like. On me it smelled like a greenhouse in May- mild but a distinct fertilizer and soil scent. The coconut isn’t tropical it’s the scent of the outside brown roughage. Some people like smelling like hot manure , not me.

Haunting sillage

I'm not the kind of person who wears the same thing every day, but for this one I think I might make an exception. The only thing better than the initial scent is the smell that lingers hours later. Obsessed.

The initial scent throws you off, but the fragrances come out an hour later. It's very earthy and rich!!!

Not My Favorite Fig

I love most fig scents, and this one is nice, except for whatever the prominent sharpness is up front. I think it’s the fig leaf. I tried it a couple different times and just can’t get past whatever that note is.
